Disney movies have been a staple of America’s society since the dawn of man. There is something magical about these movies that make you want to watch them over and over again. Although Disney may put out some garbage every now and then (Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch and Snow Dogs if it counted), you can always count on Disney to come up with a song so good that it gets stuck in your head. With that, I present to you the top five Disney animated movie songs of all time)
5. Reflection
I chose the Christina Aguilera version (pop version), but the soundtrack version recorded by Lea Salonga was pretty good too. Why is this song so awesome you ask? Because everyone can relate to this song; I mean, who here hasn’t cross-dressed to get into an organization for the sole purpose of bringing honor to their family?
4. I’ll Make a Man out of You
If you claim to be Asian and do not know the lyrics to this song, then I apologize for being blunt, but your claims are false. When I march through Chinatown singing this song, I fully expect everyone within fifty feet of me to break out into song as well. By the way, in the video, when Mulan climbs on top of the pole and throws the arrow toward Captain Li Shang, what if she missed the ground and actually hit him instead?
3. A Whole New World
Sure, sure, this song is awesome when it first comes up as Jasmine inexplicably hops onto a carpet that flies with someone she barely even knows. Anyway, I picked the ending credits version of the song because at that point the magic feeling of knowing you don’t have to listen to Gilbert Godfried (Iago) anymore is gained.
2. Go the Distance
This song is awesome because Michael Bolton sings it. Who doesn’t like that sweet guitar build-up around the three-minute mark? Here is a scenario: I am trying to do fifty pushups and get stuck at forty (which I never would since my strength surpasses even the Greek gods of ancient folklore). Two things could happen here 1) I can try to do the last ten but fail miserably or 2) This song comes on the radio and rather than giving up, I do sixty additional pushups. This song pumps me up almost as much as the scene in Rocky IV where the Russian crowd starts chanting “Rocky! Rocky!”
1. The Surprises in Life
Oops, you mean to tell me this isn’t a Disney song? Well, truth be told, at the time of writing I could only come up with four Disney songs that I really liked and while searching for a fifth, I remembered the Animaniacs did a spoof on the Lion King, so here it is.
In my humble, yet superior opinion, I believe these are the greatest Disney songs of all time. If you disagree, please post your thoughts however wrong they may be.
